Aggreko to Power North America’s First World Equestrian Games

Rental power leader to provide nearly 2,000 tons of HVAC equipment for 16-day event

Houston (October 5, 2010) – Aggreko, the global leader in rental power, cooling, heating and oil-free compressed air, today announced that it will provide nearly 2,000 tons of HVAC equipment and 17 megawatts of electricity – enough to power approximately 2,000 mid-sized homes – for North America’s first World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY.

The event, sponsored by global animal health company Alltech, in association with the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI), will be held Sept. 25 through Oct. 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park.  The Games – celebrating its 20th year – brings together the world’s elite equestrian competitors in eight separate disciplines:  jumping, reining, dressage, eventing, endurance, para dressage, vaulting and driving.

“We were most impressed by Aggreko’s successful service to both the Vancouver Winter Olympics and the 2008 Ryder Cup tournament in Kentucky,” said Rob Hinkle, vice president of operations of the World Equestrian Games Foundation.  “Aggreko was the clear choice to heat and cool this momentous competition.”

Aggreko will provide both heating and cooling services for media, hospitality and public venues, supplying heat for more than 20 pavilions in the evenings and air conditioning in the afternoons.  Additionally, Aggreko will provide power for the medal ceremonies and official event timing and scoring.

“We are delighted to power the Games, which are expected to attract more than 600,000 equestrian fans from around the world,” said David Prince, senior project manager, Aggreko Event Services.  “Large-scale events like these are our forte.  Building on the successful service we’ve provided to similar venues, Aggreko is well-prepared to power facilities across the 2,000-acre, three-mile compound.”

For seven weeks, Aggreko technicians have been hard at work unloading and installing approximately 80 truckloads of equipment, including generators from 24 to 1,500 kW and HVAC packages from five to 80 tons.  In total, the company will provide 59 miles of cable – which, when stretched out, would stretch from the Kentucky Horse Park to the Kentucky Derby in Louisville, KY – for the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

Aggreko has a wealth of experience providing power and temperature control to the most high-profile events in the world, including the Olympic Games, the U.S. Presidential Inauguration and the Daytona 500.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through 120 service centres, which we call the Local Business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about 60% of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which accounts for about 40% of revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.
