Aggreko Introduces New Low-Emission Natural Gas Reciprocating Generators

New model for the utility industry designed for immeidate mobilization and automatic grid synchronization

Houston – Aggreko, the global leader in rental power, temperature control, and oil-free compressed air solutions, has introduced a new 1300 kW natural gas model generator into its fleet, adding a new option for companies needing quick and effective short-term  power generation. This model features the new Cummins QSK60 gas engine, the latest in emissions-control engine technology within the temporary utility market. It joins Aggreko’s  fleet of low-emission natural gas reciprocating generators, which ranges from 65 to 1300 kW (1625 kVA). When used for long-term, continuous operation, natural gas units have been shown to offer cost savings of 40-45 percent compared to diesel units, primarily due to savings in fuel.

The new Aggreko 1300 kW model includes some of the most advanced environmental technologies available, including sound reduction for extremely quiet operation, smokeless output and a save-all containment base that reduces the risk of fluid leakage. The units are EPA-compliant, delivering proven and time-tested “Lean-burn” gas technology, and meeting the most demanding federal and state emissions guidelines in the U.S. The new V-16 (16 cylinder) gas engine has turbo-charging and low temperature after-cooling, ensuring efficient performance. Units can also be scaled up or down, allowing capacity to change with demand.

The modular design, standardized in 20ft ISO containers, allows for easy transportation and flexible installation. Aggreko’s packaged control technology allows units to be set up in parallel in a matter of minutes, and the on-board synchronizing gear allows the generator to be automatically integrated into the grid, minimizing disruptions and fluctuations in power. Units also feature an EPA-approved paint color designed to blend better with the surrounding landscape. These machines provide a fast, economical state-of-the-art temporary power solution for remote generation facilities, without the need for large-scale capital expenditure.

Aggreko has more than 350 MW of natural gas units in operation around the world. Recent projects include 100 MW for a power plant, 30 to 50 MW for grid support, 8 MW for an industrial park, and 4 MW for a new gas facility.

The new natural gas generators are immediately available for rent. To learn more please visit http://www.aggreko.com/northamerica/.

Editor’s Notes

Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 3,800 people operating from 148 locations. In 2010 we served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately GBP 1.2bn (USD 1.9bn or Euros 1.4bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE-100 index, and is headquartered in Scotland. For more information, please visit the company website at http://www.aggreko.com/.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems.  We serve our customers either through our 148 service centers, which we call the Local Business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it.  In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.

In 2010 we fulfilled almost 40,000 customers’ assignments and when researched, 68% of them gave us a recommendation of 9 or 10 out of 10.
